The Pioneer Award honors a man, woman and/or company in “recognition of their outstanding contributions and dedication to California’s dynamic poultry industry.” This year, CPF honored the renowned California Animal Health and Food Safety (CAHFS) laboratory system as the 2023 recipient of the cherished “Pioneer Award.” CAHFS has a rich 107-year history with significant accomplishments. Challenged by disease outbreaks and the need for rapid responses, the CAHFS Lab has protected the poultry industry and saved poultry and eggs from disease extinction. A long-term agreement to operate the system was adopted by the University of California Davis, School of Veterinary Medicine (SVM) in 1987. Its four branch sites include: UC Davis, Turlock, Tulare and San Bernardino.
