Representatives from across the poultry industry have formed the Poultry Industry Food Safety Council (PIFSCo) to develop practical solutions to common food safety challenges confronting the sector.

The poultry industry has faced heightened regulatory scrutiny around the safety of poultry. The Food Safety and Inspection Service of the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) proposed rules aimed at reducing the prevalence of Salmonella strains in poultry, for example. USDA ultimately delayed or withdrew some proposed food safety measures, including the agency’s Salmonella framework. Still, poultry industry stakeholders determined the time had come for the issue of food safety to have an industry-led platform supported by (but apart from) the individual trade associations. Read more
