Very few cases of highly pathogenic avian influenza have been reported in the region’s poultry in recent months, but a rising number of cases in Australia’s wild birds and other species indicate a continued threat. Over the past few weeks, Taiwan has been the only Asian territory to report new cases of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) in poultry.
Infections with the H5N1 virus serotype were detected in three native chickens in early August, according to the official notification from the veterinary authority to the World Organisation for Animal Health. The birds were among a group of 25 delivered to a slaughterhouse in Taipei. Read more
