Council OKs up to three hens in city back yards
Chickens are no longer backyard outlaws in Sacramento.
With a unanimous vote Tuesday night, the City Council passed an ordinance that will allow city residents to keep up to three egg-laying hens in their back yards starting Nov. 1.

Cargill announces voluntary ground turkey recall
Cargill Value Added Meats Retail, a business unit of Wichita-based Cargill Meat Solutions Corporation, today announced an immediate Class I voluntary recall of approximately 36 million pounds of fresh and frozen ground turkey products produced at the company’s Springdale, Ark., facility from Feb. 20, 2011, through Aug. 2, 2011, due to possible contamination from Salmonella Heidelberg.

TUCKER, GA, July 27, 2011 – U.S. Poultry & Egg Association (USPOULTRY) announces the release of a new video that takes a look at how chickens and turkeys are raised in the United States. The video takes a behind-the-scenes look at hatcheries and poultry farms. It addresses areas such as sanitation practices, vaccination techniques, poultry diets, poultry litter management, and the safeguarding of natural resources, as well as highlights the sustainability of the modern poultry industry.
