After a nearly monthlong absence from commercial poultry in the United States, highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) has reappeared in a South Dakota turkey flock.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) reported that the case was confirmed on August 12 and involved 74,900 commercial meat turkeys in Beadle County.
Prior to the South Dakota case, the last time HPAI was confirmed in a commercial poultry flock in the United States was July 13, when a flock of 275,100 table egg layer pullets in Cache County was affected. Read more
