Today Direct Action Everywhere (DXE), led by organizer and UC Berkeley student Zoe Rosenberg, is holding a protest in the “largest dining hall” on campus to “demand that they stop buying from factory farms.” Activists are telling viewers to call CalDining to make their demand. The protest is part of the group’s larger “Cancel Animal Ag” campaign, which has been calling on California Governor Gavin Newsom to enact a moratorium on farms and processing facilities in the state.
On April 17, 2021, the San Francisco chapter of Direct Action Everywhere is planning to hold a “factory farm vigil and caravan” beginning at 1098 Samuel Drive in Petaluma, California. The event is reportedly in support of four Bay Area activists who are facing felony charges for documenting alleged animal cruelty inside Sonoma County farms. A preliminary hearing for these activists is scheduled for tomorrow, April 13. In a corresponding Facebook page for the event, DXE claimed the group will be “going back to the farms DXE has been investigating for years with a car caravan of activists.” They intend to “bear witness” and protest against the farms.
All farms and facilities in the area should prepare for potential activist activity, especially those that have been targeted by DXE before. Here is a resource about preparing for protests on farms. For questions, email Emily Solis.
