US commodity and biofuels groups praised the passage of legislation by the House that would enable year-round, nationwide sale of ethanol blends up to 15%, and called on the Senate to quickly pass the bill and send it to the president.
The Nationwide Consumer and Fuel Retailer Choice Act was decoupled from the farm bill, which was approved by the House on April 30. Proponents said the bill will help farmers by creating demand and consumers at the gas pump.
“As gas prices continue to skyrocket across the United States, allowing E15 to be sold year-round is the fastest way to save consumers at the pump and help make America more energy secure in the face of the oil supply disruption in the Strait of Hormuz,” said Brian Jennings, chief executive officer of the American Coalition for Ethanol (ACE). “E15 would also help American farmers coping with the worst economic conditions in a generation by increasing corn demand domestically.” Read more
