President Donald Trump released his fiscal year 2027 budget request to Congress on Friday, and it deals quite a blow to the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

Calling the agency “a bloated Washington, D.C., bureaucracy with multiple management layers and many extraneous programs that are irrelevant” to serving rural America, Trump is requesting $20.8 billion in discretionary budget authority for USDA in 2027, slashing it by 19 percent from the 2026 enacted level. Read more
