The Delaware Department of Agriculture (DDA) announced that preliminary testing of a commercial broiler flock in Kent County has returned presumptive positive for H5 highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI).

State officials quarantined the affected premises, and the birds on the property are being depopulated to prevent the spread of the disease, DDA said in a press release, issued on January 10. If this becomes a confirmed case of HPAI, it will be the first since January 2025, when three commercial broiler flocks were affected. All three of those instances were also in Kent County.
