Each year three awards are given to recipients at the CPF Annual Meeting and Conference. Below are the three winners.
 

Golden Rooster Award

Dr. Annette Jones

The CPF Golden Rooster Award is the industry’s highest honor, given to an individual or family whose dedication and inspiration is an example for all in the industry. California Poultry Federation’s Executive Committee voted unanimously to honor Dr. Annette Jones as the "Golden Rooster," the association’s highest honor. Dr. Jones is the State Veterinarian and Director of the Animal Health and Food Safety Services Division in California. Her contributions include dynamic leadership as head of the task force to combat Exotic Newcastle Disease and keep it from moving north past the Tehachapi Mountains. She helped coordinate thousands in our state, and she earned the respect of every area of poultry and eggs. Since then she has continued to work closely with our industry to enhance are emergency preparedness and promote quality assurance throughout the state.

 

Pioneer Award

Member Farmers of Squab Producers of California

Pioneer

The CPF Pioneer Award honors a man, woman, family or company in recognition of their outstanding dedication and contributions to the California poultry industry. This years’ recipient was a company run by many farmers and owned by their cooperative with processing in Modesto. Member Farmers of Squab Producers of California received the 2012 CPF Pioneer Award. Squab Producers was formed as an agricultural cooperative in the Bay Area in 1943 and in 1983 moved its operation to Modesto, California. It has led its industry in many areas, including: innovative products, packaging and marketing; legislative and regulatory USDA actions; and in the development of Meat Quality Assurance Plans for squab and game birds, as well as leading animal welfare programs both at the farm and processing plant.

 

Allied Member of the Year Award

Don Sneddon

Allied
Don Sneddon was the recipient of the 2012 CPF Allied Member of the Year Award. This award goes to a person for their exceptional service and outstanding contributions to California’s poultry industry. Allied members help sustain the industry with their support at board meetings and poultry events, their contributions go directly to the promotion and improvement of California’s poultry industry. Sneddon started his career with GTA Feeds, continuing on to Draper Valley Farms and, in 2005, joined Evonik (Degussa). Don earned a BS degree in Wildlife Science from Oregon State University and an MS in animal science from the University of Idaho.
