California’s farmers and ranchers got a potential boost from the Legislature when it sent the governor a bill that would encourage state agencies to buy food products grown and raised in the Golden State. The bill, AB 199 by Assemblyman Chris Holden (D-Pasadena), would require state-run hospitals, prisons and schools to purchase agricultural products from California companies, if the cost is as low or lower than the best bid received from an out-of-state seller.
