Since the end of 2019, there have been reports of avian influenza in several European countries, including Hungary, Poland, and Romania. The virus detected in these outbreaks is a highly pathogenic form of the H5 influenza virus. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), there have been 24 avian influenza outbreaks in European domestic poultry flocks across six different countries between the 30 December 2019 and 18 January 2020.
