California’s Foster Farms is the first major broiler chicken producer in the nation to carry the American Humane Association seal, ensuring consumers that its farms meet the nonprofit’s stringent animal welfare guidelines for raising poultry. In an industry long slammed for housing birds in inhumane conditions – crowding, filth, poor ventilation and darkness to keep them from moving so they will grow faster – Foster Farms has made a commitment to follow requirements that include giving poultry more space in their barns, keeping ammonia levels down and controlling lighting to simulate day and night.  "It’s the right thing to do for our birds, and we know that it is important to our consumers," said Ron Foster, CEO of Foster Farms, in a written statement.Read More
