Quietly, with little fanfare, a growing San Joaquin Valley chicken business is conducting a major expansion into Kings County. In August, Sanger-based Pitman Family Farms purchased an 18-acre animal feed facility formerly belonging to Cargill in the Kings Industrial Park south of Hanford. Last month, Pitman expanded its footprint by snapping up an additional 97 acres of vacant land around the feed plant, reportedly for a cool $2.7 million. It’s the firm’s biggest leap forward since they opened a Sanger slaughterhouse/processing facility in 2003. What is Pitman planning to do with all this new Kings County land and infrastructure? Co-owner David Pitman declined to comment, but some officials say its going to be a big deal. “They’re planning some significant things,” said John Lehn, Kings County Economic Development Corp. CEO.
