Assemblyman Ian Calderon is off to a good start this year. His legislation to prevent schools from purchasing “plumped” chicken or turkey that is injected with salt water or other substances, was approved this week on a 7-0 vote by the Assembly Education Committee after it stalled in 2013. Still, A.B. 682 must be approved by the full Assembly by the end of January in order to survive for consideration this year. The bill also applies to food served in state-owned or leased buildings.
