House and Senate Republicans left Washington today and are headed to Philadelphia for their annual retreat and strategy session. Meanwhile, it could be mid-February before the U.S. Senate Agriculture Committee holds a confirmation hearing on the nomination of former Georgia Governor (2003-2011) Sonny Perdue to become the next Secretary of Agriculture.As these vetting process go, it will be weeks before Perdue submits required financial disclosures and additional weeks for them to be thoroughly analyzed for any conflicts of interest. Perdue must also undergo FBI background checks. Perdue grew up on a row-crop farm in Georgia.  He earned a doctorate in veterinary medicine from the University of Georgia in 1971.  His agribusiness endeavors include owning various grain and feed processing facilities and transportation and export companies.
