Poultry stocks rocked by avian flu outbreak

Shares of poultry producers were hit hard Friday, after a bird-flu outbreak was confirmed in Indiana, even though some companies assured investors the outbreak didn’t involve them. The presence of “highly pathogenic” avian influenza was found in a commercial turkey flock in Dubois County, Ind., in the southwestern part of the state, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service said Friday in a statement.
