Debbie Stabenow (D-Mich.) released a draft proposal that would replace current country-of-origin labeling (COOL) with a generic, voluntary label, but her plan is already meeting opposition.  Stabenow, ranking member of the U.S. Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry, is proposing to remove the beef and pork mandatory labeling provision under COOL and put in its place a voluntary Product of the U.S. label.
