Two turkeys to receive presidential pardon have Sonoma County ties

Two Nicholas White turkeys from Foster Farms of Modesto, hand-chosen for their plumage, sociability and good manners, are getting ready to head to the White House in late November for their 15 minutes of fame during an official pardon by President Obama. Escorted by mock Secret Service Agents, the turkeys will make their public debut later this week at the InterContinental Hotel in San Francisco, President Obama’s hotel of choice when visiting the city. Before Thanksgiving, the turkeys will arrive at the San Francisco airport in a presidential-style motorcade and fly, courtesy of United Airlines, aboard a flight dubbed “Turkey One.”
