UC Davis Chancellor Linda Katehi on Thursday welcomed Roger Beachy as founding director of the school’s internationally recognized World Food Center.
The World Food Center is the university’s latest and best attempt at working out how to feed a burgeoning human population. And Beachy, a renowned plant biologist, has been tapped for the job of getting the center up and running, Katehi announced Thursday morning. An event to commemorate the new appointment was held in the school’s Jess S. Jackson Sustainable Winery Building. The World Food Center itself was only announced last March by Katehi during the Climate-Smart Agriculture Conference, which she convened at the Mondavi Center for the Performing Arts.
